![Wedding Planner POV: Details That Inspired Us from CBK and JFK Jr.’s Wedding Weekend 💌✨
As history lovers and wedding professionals, we have totally been swept up in the “CBK Effect”
Carolyn Bassette Kennedy (lovingly remembered as CBK) and John F Kennedy Jr. had the wedding of the century on September 26th, 1996 surrounded by their closest loved ones on Cumberland Island off the coast of Georgia. It was a huge undertaking to plan the festivities in secret, with the weekend starting by guests arriving in the cover of darkness to get on private jets to an unknown destination.
Our beloved “American royalty” left the world far too soon, going from some of the most famous people in the world to the most grieved in July of 1999. The “CBK Effect” had a resurgence when FX released Love Story this year, which controversially retold their story, somehow leaving us with even more questions than we had before.
Their story: a passionate, complicated love and the merging of two very public lives, is part of why their wedding continues to fascinate the industry today.
There is so much we can learn and inspiration we can take from the way they chose to celebrate privately, intentionally, and surrounded by only those who mattered most.
